Tuning - I learned to tune aurally many years ago, but now I use a combination of an electronic tuning device and traditional aural techniques. For me, this is the best and most accurate way to tune. In addition to the more common equal temperament, I also offer tunings based on historical temperaments.
Regulation - having your piano action work smoothly and efficiently is one of the most important things to the pianist. Action regulation restores the moving action parts, which have changed due to playing and gravity, to their factory specifications.
Repair - I am experienced in diagnosing and correcting problems in both vertical and grand pianos.
Rebuilding/Reconditioning - I specialize in rebuilding and/or reconditioning grand piano actions, with extensive experience rebuilding the Steinway grand piano action and damper system. While I don't restring or refinish pianos, I can recommend local rebuilders who I feel do outstanding work.
Evaluation/Consultation - I frequently evaluate pianos for potential buyers, in some cases advising cients not to buy a piano which might require spending more in repairs and rebuilding than the piano is worth. I charge a small fee for this service, which includes a written evaluation of my opinion of the piano.
Before purchasing a new or used piano, I highly recommend reading The Piano Book, by Larry Fine. This well-written book is a buyer's guide for buying a new or used piano and contains valuable information about what to look for when examining a piano. The Piano Book is available online at Amazon and at many local bookstores.
